The key is to choose your boss

It is 10 years when I have got a call to join Autodesk. It was a time when I was 4 years at Intergraph and the opportunity  to work for leading 3D  desktop company was so attractive. So after few interviews, visiting Autodesk’s UK office,  I  canceled my current contract with  Intergraph, got a new one with Autodesk, including stock option, car, great compensation… and was in 2 months leaving period.  Something unexpected  happened, despite the fact  I haven’t said to anybody where I am going. I remember sitting  outside in  the Amsterdam office  and my boss opened a ppt presentation in front of me asking me “Stanislav, what  would you like to do” ? First slide : “here we have new organization structure  and we still seek right people – look here –  what about functional designer role” ? I have kindly refused this, so he continues to a next slide… technical, architecture and strategy  group  ?  I started to pay attention…  as I saw there in the top of the  organization chart a name of the person I would like to work for.   After few internal interviews, my new role and how I would fit here and there I have got new exciting offer and I have accepted it,  had to rollback my cancelation with Intergraph, had to rollback my Autodesk ,  and for next  7 years I enjoyed to report to Intergraph CTO, could work on various geospatial-related prototypes, contribute to conferences and meet with key  people.  I still wear  Autodesk key strap from the UK office visit, though.

So if you can,  choose your boss   then watch chain reaction over the  time, this is the key….   enjoy 2018  !

iKatastr2 on 6th place in Křišťálová lupa 2012

I am excited   that  project I have been working on at Intergraph called ” iKatastr2″  has placed on  6th position in category “Mobile service” in national competition called “Kříšťálová lupa 2012” (Czech Internet Prize)
  • First 3 places has been occupied by popular news applications or national TV app ( hundreds of thousands users).
  • 4th place positioned  AVG antivirus application for Android. (tens of millions users)
  • 5th place took Czech public  transit application. (hundreds of thousands users)
iKatastr2 was the only map/geospatial-related application  nominated
few reasons for success are :
  •  good content provided through  OGC standards  by national mapping agency (CUZK)
  •  great user experience  for getting job done
  •  application quality and stability
  •  focus on local (national)  services rather than global

Awarding ceremony was great fun  ! it was in the spirit of end of the world in 2012 so stage was styled as cemetery and winners received among other gravestones . Each winner had a chance to say something and then they passed into the black tunnel to ‘the other side’ as the end of the world is planned in 3 weeks.

SOA presentation at Intergraph 2008

It’s been long time since my last post…I am completely busy and lot of changes have happened during the 2007 year. The most important is that I have handover my ‘start-up’ Intergraph division in Brno (called UtiCom Solution Center) and started to work as Technical Architect for SG&I division of Intergraph with Technology, Architecture and Strategy team. Moreover another important information drives me to update my blog – my presentation at Intergraph 2008. I will present in Las Vegas in June SG&I roadmap towards Service Oriented Architecture ! Looking forward to see you there.

update 2009 : you can download my presentation here :  http://www.intergraph2008.com/presentations under #9008, however you need a valid username and password. Also portions of the presentation can be found on CEN/TC 287 workshop http://blog.sumbera.com/2009/04/10/presentation-at-centc-287/

GeoSpatial World 2005

Atttended GeoSpatial World 2005 in SanFrancisco. I was mainly interested in section Geospatial Resource Management so I attended relevant sessions. One of the most wonderful thing there was on-site tour to Sacramento Municipal Utilities where InService in action was presented. I had oportunity to see stages for Mobile Crew, Dispatcher, Call center..etc… Another nice issue was G/Tech 9.3 presentation and InService 7.9.
